Dear Friends,

I am running for U. S. Congress to have the privilege to represent the 23rd District of Texas, one of the most impressive and diverse congressional districts in the country. It encompasses natural wonders like Big Bend National Park and man-made wonders like Mission San Jose, where I was baptized.

Those of us who make up the district are teachers and businesspeople, coaches and lawyers, artists and social workers, city and government employees, bankers and ranchers. Most of us are more than one thing. And all us are part of this community.

We have parents and partners, children and friends. We have dreams for ourselves and dreams for them.

None of us look to government to run our lives.  But we do look to government to uphold and protect the values that have made our country great: freedom of expression, access to equal and high-quality education, concern and care for the sick and disadvantaged, help for those in our own communities and in the world stricken by disasters or violence, respect and gratitude for those who serve our country in the armed forces, and fair and open financial practices.

Justifiably, many of us feel angry about what’s happening in Washington. We see our values being trampled by a loud, reckless, and selfish minority that would take advantage of our good intentions. We’re frustrated. We feel like we don’t have a voice.

I want to change that. And with your help, I will. I believe that together, we can be better.

I have been talking to you and getting to know you the past few months, from Del Rio to Alpine, from the south side of San Antonio to the north side where I went to high school. And that’s what I intend to keep doing.

I need your help. This campaign is truly a grassroots effort. If you believe, as I do, that we can be better, I ask you to consider donating to the campaign, either financially or with the gift of your time. Over the next few months we’ll be building our base, getting our message out, and driving thousands and thousands of miles on Lady Bird Johnson’s beautiful Texas highways.

Thank you for your support.

Most Sincerely,
